Pims Projects: Implementing Pims in a project

  • Implementing Pims in a project requires attention to detail, preparation, and a thorough start.
  • Communicating well with the client and clarifying their intentions and goals are key.
  • Implementing Pims in the oil and gas and construction industries differs, especially due to the presence, or otherwise, of standardized processes.
  • Pilot projects provide users with the opportunity to be part of a real project from day one.

With a wealth of experience from various sectors and projects, Håvard Ravatn is one of many Omega team members that can assist clients in identifying the best way to get started when it comes to Pims implementation.

“When starting a new project it is important to be thorough and not move forward too quickly. There are many issues to solve, and it is important to be well prepared; communicate well with the client and clarify their intentions and goals,” says Ravatn.

In 2015, Omega started adapting Pims for use in the construction sector, in addition to the oil and gas industry. Ravatn highlights some of the similarities and differences of implementing Pims on projects within these two industries and shares his experiences from pilot projects, highlighting their potential to assist in developing Pims.

“I think that pilot projects are of great value. They provide users with the opportunity to be part of a real project from day one,” Ravatn says.

Ravatn also emphasizes the importance of communication between Omega and clients at every stage of the implementation process. Whilst the goal is always to assist clients in becoming as independent as possible, he says it is important that clients know that they will always have access to “Pims experts” who can assist with issues that may arise on a project.
