Calgary, Canada

Calgary is located on the western side of Canada, approximately one hour drive east of the Canadian Rockies, the home to the reputable ski resorts of Banff and Lake Louise (both of which will be sampled later this month as the snow arrives).

Calgary is a fairly modern city, as a result of its major growth happening during the eighties. Of course, it is also famous for hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics.

The city has a population of just under one million people, keeping it to a comfortable size city to live in.

Downtown Calgary is compact, containing the high rise buildings of business. It can be easily walked end to end in about 20 minutes, but if that is too much for some, the surface C-Train system (similar to London Underground but runs aboveground) can be used for free through the downtown areas. The same train system can be used to travel further afield for a mere $2CAD (approximately 10NOK) and tickets are valid for unlimited travel for 90 minutes.
